Hawthorne School-Backpack Food and Christmas House Toy Drives

The Airport thanks our staff, tenants, friends and the Washington Pilots Association for the Holiday support of the Hawthorne School Backpack Food collection program and the toys donated to Christmas House and Toys for Tots.  Special thanks to RH2 Engineering, Department of Emergency Management, Everett Community College, Aerospace Futures Alliance, Northway Aviation, Precision Engines, QFC Mukilteo, and Donald Ehr for their generous support.  Paine Field Firefighters Tony Mace  and Mike Bergstrom loaded the toys for delivery to Christmas House.  Thanks to all that helped make life a little easier for our local children.

Future of Flight Speaker Series

The Future of Flight Foundation January's Community Speakers Series "It's All About the Future"  topic will be "Competing with Global Companies from Your Garage: What happens when manufacturing catches up with software?" held on January 11, 2012 at the Future of Flight Aviation Center, 8415 Paine Field Blvd in Mukilteo, WA.

The speaker will be Joe Justice, CEO of WIKISPEED.  Joe Justice is a Seattle-area agile business process consultant, "entreprenerd," and a registered automotive manufacturer since 2007.  In 2010, Joe's X Prize team, WIKISPEED, used agile process to tie for 10th place in the mainstream class of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize, a $10 million challenge for 100+ MPGe automobiles. WIKISPEED now uses agile, lean, and scrum to deliver hyper-efficient customer cars and rapidly solve problems for social good. Further detailed information about the speaker is included in the informational poster on the FOFF website.

The speaker presentation will be from 6:30pm - 8:00pm and FREE to the public. A special "Meet the Speaker" Reception will be held from 5:30pm - 6:30pm before his presentation which is $15 per person and includes refreshments. You must prepay and register for the "Meet the Speaker" reception by December 10, 2012. The "Meet the Speaker" reservation form can be found at the Future of Flight Foundation website under the events tab. To RSVP for the "Meet the Speaker" reception please mail your reservation form in, email, or call 435-438-8100 ext 230.

Going Green

The entire aerospace industry is looking for ways to reduce its impact on the environment and improve sustainability. New Boeing aircraft are quieter and burn less fuel. Airlines and the FAA are working to improve flight planning, scheduling and air traffic routing to save fuel.  Likewise, the Airport of Choice is looking for ways to be a better steward of the environment.  We have made substantial improvements in energy usage and are switching to more efficient systems and lighting as part of this effort.  We will use this column to let you know how we are doing and to solicit your ideas on GOING GREEN.

Pets and Props

Pilots and tenants of the Airport have a responsibility to maintain a safe flying environment.  One way to accomplish this is by maintaining positive control of any person or animal brought on the Airport.   Guests of the Airport who are unfamiliar with airfield markings or signage can easily get confused and potentially end up on an active runway or taxiway.  Additionally, pets or other animals should be on leashes, kenneled, or within handling distance to avoid accidents with moving vehicles or airplanes.  If you want further information about airfield safety, please contact Bruce Goetz at his email or 425-388-5110.

Airport Rental Space Available

•  5,144 sq. ft. of mixed office/manufacturing/ warehouse space:  Suite S of the IAC Bldg

•  3,742 sq. ft. of office space (mountain views) with ability to subdivide:  Second Floor of the C-3 Building

Historic Flight Foundation P-51 Course

It's the first step in fulfilling the dream of flight in the P-51 Mustang. On January 28, John Posson of Stallion 51 Corporation will lead a one day ground school and formation clinic. Posson teaches the P-51 course at Stallion 51 in Kissimmee, Florida and flies in the Patriots Jet Team. Qualified pilots may schedule P-51 flight training directly with Posson. This year, the presentation includes the history of the P-51 type. The course is open to pilots and non-pilots. Weather permitting, P-51B "Impatient Virgin" will fly at the end of the course. For more information and to enroll, contact Visitor Services at Historic Flight Foundation.

Throughout January, T-6 and B-25 aircraft are available for training and rides at the Historic Flight Foundation. Visit www.historicflight.org for additional information.
