We received our first major snow event of 2012 in January. It was a great opportunity to try out some of the newly acquired equipment the Airport has purchased. The photo to the right is one of the new brooms in action. The Airport Team did an amazing job getting all the runways and taxiways opened for the airplanes and pilots who were brave enough to fly! Fire Captain Rueter Retires
Bill Rueter is a familiar face to all of us at the Airport. He has been with the Fire Department for 30 years and recently announced his retirement.
Rueter was hired as a firefighter March 3, 1982 and promoted to Captain in October of 1992. He was responsible for the Hazardous Materials Program as a firefighter and took over the inspection/safety program when he was promoted to Captain. His passion for training led him to become the Training Officer in 1995, a responsibility he has kept until retirement.
A celebration of his years in the fire service will be held at the Airport Fire Station on February 16, 2012. Guests are welcome to arrive at 8:00 am with the ceremony beginning at 9:00 am.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, an informal celebration will continue at Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill & Irish Pub, located at 122 128th St SW, Everett.
The public is welcome and encouraged to join Bill Rueter and his wife Sherry in this very special occasion. |

Additional Historic Flight Foundation Events
Historic Flight Foundation (HFF) will also host the quarterly meeting of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on February 4, 2012. Members of the flying public are welcome. The presentation will address the restoration and test flight program of Mig-29 N29UB, restored in 2008-10 and successfully test-flown in January and February of 2011. In a tale rich in anecdotes, HFF founder John Sessions will describe the cast and critical path to restore and fly a front-line, Mach 2.4 fighter. Test Pilot Doug Russell will share his experiences flying the Mig-29 as a U.S. Air Force exchange pilot in West Germany and more recently, as the lead pilot of N29UB. For tickets and other information, please contact Visitor Services at 425-348-3200.
On February 11, spend the afternoon with a panel of Navy fighter pilots from the piston age. Beginning at 1:00 pm, five of our favorite octogenarians will tell their stories and offer flying tips. The event will be recorded as part of HFF's program to preserve first-hand accounts of those who flew between 1927 and 1957. For more information or to participate, please contact Visitor Services at 425-348-3200. |

People and Places: Terry Wilcoxson at Castle and Cooke
Pilots and travelers are greeted to a warm smile from Terry Wilcoxson when entering the doors of Castle and Cooke. Wilcoxson has a great history at Paine Field and a long love of aviation. When he was young, Wilcoxson joined his father at Paine Field's Air Force Base Commissary and watched the aircraft fly. Later, he took his first aircraft ride from Paine Field and aviation has been in his blood ever since. He currently holds his private, commercial, instrument, and A&P certificates. During his six years in the Navy he was a captain on the F-4 Phantom onboard the U.S.S. Midway. After being discharged from the military, Wilcoxson returned to the Pacific Northwest and received a job in 1976 working for Flightline Services and has been at Paine Field ever since. He has worked his way up from line service employee to general manager of Castle and Cooke. He also worked a short stint as a part-time employee for San Juan Airlines in the 1980s, when the airline was flying passengers from Paine Field to Portland.
Castle and Cooke has additional FBO's in Van Nuys, CA and Honolulu, HI which offer aircraft fueling, hangar rentals, travel reservations (cars, hotels, and catering) for inbound customers. On a normal day, Wilcoxson and his staff will service numerous aircraft, check on fuel quality in its 300,000 gallon fuel farm, maintain various fueling equipment, and attend to other bookkeeping duties. Because of the nature of the business, Wilcoxson believes one of Castle and Cooke's primary responsibilities is to be Ambassadors for Snohomish County. His team members are the first people to meet many high level business people when traveling to the region and he wants to make sure they have a great first impression.
Wilcoxson loves working at Paine Field because of the uniqueness of the aircraft. On any given day he can see a WWII aircraft taxiing for takeoff in front of some of the latest technologies from Boeing. As he nears the end of his career, Wilcoxson is excited about involving young people on a journey to all the possibilities aviation has to offer. |

Contractor KLB Construction began the work in mid January at Beverly Park Road and will continue north working along the side of Commando Road with crossings of 113th Street SW, 112th Street SW and in the middle of 3st Place W over the next three weeks. Work areas will be coned and temporary traffic revisions will occur along this route including access in the Boeing Yellow Parking lot, YMCA parking lot, the Hangar 3 (EMC & EDC) lot and IAC lot. In the second half of February, the work will progress across the Hangar 3 North parking lot to the water tank. Additional parking areas East of 30th and South of 113th will be open to accommodate parkers temporarily displaced from the Yellow and Hangar 3 North lots.
Drivers and pedestrians in the area are cautioned to be alert for and follow direction from construction signage and flaggers. Mapping with the dates and times work is expected in each area and what road or parking lots will be affected will be posted at www.painefield.com. Please allow for ample time to get to/from your destinations during the construction period. Work schedules may be affected by rain or snow.
