Greetings!
Reducing incursions on the airfield has been a high priority of the FAA and aviation community for a long time. It has been a focus of both the FAA Part 139 Inspection Program and the Runway Safety Action Team. The intersection of Runway 11/29, Taxiways Alpha, Charlie, Delta, Hotel and Whiskey has been identified as having an elevated risk. The FAA has asked the Airport to conduct a planning study to review this area and determine if there are modifications that could reduce the potential risk. The Airport has agreed to conduct this study and will be choosing a consultant to accomplish the work. Part of this process will include pilot and FBO involvement. The study process will likely take place later this year. If you would like to participate, please contact Jennifer Eckman at 425-388-5101 or email her at jennifer.eckman@snoco.org. Sincerely, Dave Waggoner Paine Field Airport Director P.S. If you are interested in sharing this email with a friend please Click Here. |

Lou Ramos Honored by the USDA
 | | Lou Ramos receives a Certificate of Appreciation from USDA. |
As part of the Wildlife Hazard Management Program, many Paine Field staff have been trained to assist USDA-Wildlife Services in mitigating immediate threats to aviation safety as part of their duties on the airfield. One such employee with the Airport's maintenance department, Lou Ramos, has been an integral part of the wildlife hazing efforts.
Whether reported by the Tower, a tenant, or other airport staff, Ramos can always be relied upon to efficiently, safely, and effectively deal with immediate wildlife hazards. Ramos's contribution to the Wildlife Program is invaluable, and his proactive approach to Wildlife Hazard Management makes Paine Field a safer environment in which to fly.
Because of his outstanding efforts, USDA-Wildlife Services presented Ramos with an official Certificate of Appreciation in June.
Congratulations, Lou Ramos, and keep up the good work! |

Challenge Air Flights
 | |
Young boy enjoys his Challenge Air flight. |
Established in 1993, Challenge Air enriches the lives of children and youth with special needs through its unique aviation programs. Challenge Air's mission reflects the life-changing impact the flight experience has on children, families, donors, sponsors and communities as a whole. Challenge Air is a blend of "Young Eagles" and "Make a Wish."
On Saturday, July 21, 2012, Challenge Air will operate from Historic Flight Foundation at Kilo 7. Volunteer pilots will brief and fly Challenge Air "pilots and friends." There are several goals: to improve the quality of life for participants and their families and to provide a positive environment for peer interaction for young people with special needs. The flying will arouse curiosity and perhaps inspire them for the future. Challenge Air educates about the aviation industry and the many occupational roles other than those to which young people with special needs are generally directed.
There are many ways you may participate. First, you may visit the the Challenge Air website to donate, volunteer your services as a pilot, or contribute in some other meaningful way. Second, you may volunteer at Historic Flight Foundation to assist with the program on July 21, 2012. HFF Challenge Air volunteers will meet on the evening of the July 19, 2012 to discuss their roles. No matter what role you plan, the event will connect you with remarkable people. |
