[ARCHIVED] Paine Field and friends mark Earth Day at Narbeck

Work party Earth Day 2019

Paine Field Airport joined with the Friends of Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary on Friday, April 19, for some trail maintenance to mark next week’s arrival of Earth Day. Those participating included representatives from TECT Aerospace, Snohomish County PUD and Union Bank, according to Andrew Rardin, Paine Field environmental and wildlife manager.

The 50-acre Narbeck site, located at 6900 Seaway Blvd., in south Everett, was dedicated in July 1999. The sanctuary and its wildlife habitat were protected and enhanced as part of a landmark effort by the airport that led to creation of Washington’s first wetland mitigation bank. The mitigation bank was necessary to offset the impacts that critical runway safety projects at Paine Field were expected to have on several small wetlands at the airport.

Meanwhile, Snohomish County has a full schedule of Earth Day events planned for Tuesday, April 23, at the county campus in Everett.
