Snohomish County Airport at Paine Field is breaking new ground in efforts to protect the environment while encouraging economic development.
On June 1, 2018, Paine Field became the first airport in the state to require all new building projects to meet or exceed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standard for green construction. The policy applies to all new buildings 5,000 square feet or greater at the county-owned airport. The requirement is memorialized in tenant leases.
LEED certification is recognized for encouraging buildings that save electricity, lower carbon emissions and provide healthier work environments.
